Nuggets Retain Mozgov

mozgov 2Probably one of the underrated moves of the summer, but important nonetheless, the Nuggets retained Timofey Mozgov.

The deal with the restricted free-agent is 3 years, $14 million. And with what Mozgov will bring to this team, he’s well worth the contract.

In 2012-13, Mozgov wasn’t much more than your average bench-warmer for the Nuggets. With Koufos starting, thanks to George Karl, and McGee coming off the bench, Mozzy was sentenced to being unused.

But with Koufos traded to the Memphis Grizzlies for Darrell Arthur, the Nuggets needed to retain Mozgov to be the back-up to Javale. With Brian Shaw’s system, you could argue that Mozgov will thrive in more of a natural offensive flow that could shape out his game. Not to mention, I’m thoroughly looking forward to Shaw working with Timofey to bring out his potential. We all know that George was never fond of developing young talent, and let’s not forget that Mozgov is only 27 years old.

It took a little longer than the Nuggets would’ve liked, but they got the deal done and Mozgov will be a Nugget for the next couple years at least. Good move by Denver.
