Two Harbaughs enter. One Harbaugh has it better than the other. The Harbaugh Bowl. The Harbowl. The Super Bro. The Super Bowl. Despite the Super Dome black-out, Joe Flacco threw 3 touchdown passes and The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in Super Bowl 47 to take home the Lombardi trophy in Ray Lewis’ last game in the National Football League.
Colin Kaepernick amassed 300 passing yards for the first time in this year’s regular season or postseason, but it would come in a losing effort. For the first time in three games, the Baltimore Ravens defense wasn’t on the field for 87 plays, but for only 60. Kaepernick had 62 yards on the ground, but none longer than 15. Just some of the few statistics that one should ponder after watching this big game. One hell of a Super Bowl, might I add.
Did the Ravens gameplan perfectly defensively? Or were the 49ers out of sync all game long? Maybe a bit of both. At 14:49 of the 3rd quarter, Joe Flacco threw his third touchdown of the game to give the Ravens the 28-6 lead. And then the black-out.
For 34 very long minutes, half of the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome lights went out in a power outage. Did anyone else notice that the lighting outage took place on the 49ers side of the field? Well, I did. How fitting as well, as the 49ers were lights out from that point on.
During the next 21:52 of gameplay after the Ravens touchdown and after the power outage, the 49ers outscored the Ravens 23-3 to make it a 2-point game with 12:54 left in the 4th quarter. But the deficit would prove to be too much as the Ravens would have a red zone defensive stand in the last two minutes to get the turnover on downs and seal their second Super Bowl victory in franchise history.
There ya have it, folks. Controversy surrounding Ray Lewis or not, whether that be the Deer Antler Spray, or the accused murder from 2001, Ray Lewis will ride off into the purple hazed sunset with a second ring and forever seen as a winner.
The Ravens have won Super Bowl 47 with a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Congratulations to two very high-class franchises in their fantastic seasons. Even though I picked against the Ravens in every round of this year’s playoffs, they continued to win despite what I was thinking. Their us against the world mentality couldn’t be any more spot on, especially in my picks. Hah. Good job Ravens. Congrats Baltimore.
