On Thursday night, the Denver Nuggets put their 21-3 record at home to the test when they welcomed in the Chicago Bulls, only to send them home after an absolute clinic. The Nuggets won 128-96 against a team which was formerly third in the NBA with 91.0 points allowed. That defensive average might go up a few ticks.
Coming into the game, the Nuggets had won 7 in a row, and were set to face a team in the Bulls that had the defensive ability to maybe slow down the red-hot Nuggs. Yeah, I don’t think so.
The Nuggets transition game completely burned Chicago. The Bulls turned the ball over 15 times, which lead to 28 Nuggets points off of those turnovers. The Nuggets had 23 fast break points, and 64 points in the paint. That means dunks, and a lot of them. Many of them had them either screaming “Manimal” or “JAVAAALE” at the top of their lungs. Both on Twitter, and within the Pepsi Center walls. Let me take this time to inform all of you that the Manimal will participating in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest. Ohhh yeah.
Not only did the Nuggets completely clean the floor with the Bulls, but they did it as a team. 6 Denver Nuggets were in double figures, including 24 points from Chandler coming off the bench for 19 minutes.
What’s even more impressive? This Nuggets squad is starting to put together their half-court game as well. Don’t get me wrong, most of this game went along the lines of turnover, fast-break run, and dunk. But when the Bulls tried to slow down Denver to their comfortable pace, that didn’t turn out very well for Chicago either. When the Nuggets were forced to set up a play, they did just that, and with ease.
The Denver Nuggets beat one of the top teams in the East, and they blew them out of Denver by 32 points.
As repeated on tonight’s TNT broadcast many times, I’ll repeat it again. There’s not one team in the NBA who wants to face this team in the playoffs. Denver is getting absolutely red hot. The Nuggets are 32-18 overall, have won 8 straight, 14 out of 16, and 18 out of 21. This team is for real. The playoffs couldn’t start any sooner.
Faried had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Ty Lawson had 16 points and 12 assists, and Chandler added 24 points off the bench.
Daequan Cook came off the bench to lead the Bulls with 19 points in the loss. Boozer added 18 points, and Robinson added 14 points.
