Rockies Snap Four-Game Slide

Jhoulys ChacinYes, you have read that correctly: The Rockies won 4-2 tonight in Pittsburgh over the red hot Pirates. Colorado came in losers of four straight, and if you caught any of the action in Atlanta you know it was bad.

After being outscored 40-13 in 3 games against the Braves, the Rockies found their pitching at PNC park. Starter Jhoulys Chacin threw a brilliant 8 innings allowing only 1 run on 6 hits despite being hit on the elbow with a comebacker.

The Rockies offense didn’t explode, but it didn’t need to considering the great pitching of Chacin. Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton combined for all 4 RBI’s. Helton’s two came on a single up the middle in the 6th, while Tulo had his RBI’s on a solo homer to left in the second and an infield single that began the scoring in the 6th.

All in all a solid played game on both sides for the Rockies, especially after losing 4 straight to the Braves and hitting what Helton called before the game “rock bottom” of this 2013 season.

Interesting stat of the night: Rockies tied RBI leader Todd Helton debuted exactly 16 years ago today in the same city of Pittsburgh. Rocks will face Pittsburgh again tomorrow with Jorge De La Rosa (10-5, 3.21 ERA) looking to bounce back from his worst outing of the season at Atlanta facing Fransisco Liriano (11-4, 2.16 ERA). First pitch is at 5:05 MTN time.
