The 2014 NBA Playoffs have included several significant surprises up to now. Most of the teams which entered the first round as underdogs now hold the upper hand. The only team which managed to achieve a sweep is the Miami Heat. Right now, we can fairly say that most of the predictions proved to be wrong. So, what can we say about the NBA Finals? Which teams will meet there?
Scenario 1
There are several championship contenders still alive from the Western Conference. Things look a little more settled in the East, with the Miami Heat being the No.1 favorites to make it all the way to the NBA Finals for their fourth time in a row. It will be a surprise to see the defending champions losing the title in the East this year, given that the only team which was considered capable of knocking them out, the Indiana Pacers, have shown some real signs of struggle. So, in the first scenario wants the Miami Heat winning it all in the East and getting a chance to defend their crown in the NBA Finals.
From the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Clippers might be the team that will somehow, manage to get past all of its current issues and win it all in the West. Lob City was considered as one of the strongest favorites for the title in the West but the Donald Sterling issue derailed the team’s focus. The Clips have shown that they are capable of winning despite the ownership situation and so they could end up being the team that will make it to the NBA Finals.
Scenario 2
There is no doubt that the Indiana Pacers are struggling badly as of lately. Whilst Frank Vogel’s group was surging early into the 2013 – 2014 season, during the last month they remind nothing of the powerhouse they proved they were. However, if the Pacers advance to the second round, they will be the only team capable of stopping Miami’s three-peat course. So, in this scenario, the Pacers will use their home court advantage in a rematch of the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals to roll past LeBron James and Co. and get the ticked to the NBA Finals.
From the West, the San Antonio Spurs finally prove that they still have much fuel left in their basketball tank and they get knock down any opponent that stands in their way. Gregg Popovich proves why he won the 2014 Coach of the Year award and leads the Spurs to the NBA Finals for the second consecutive time.
Scenario 3
In a mixture of the two scenario above, the 2014 NBA Finals will feature the two finalists of the previous year. The Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs eliminate any opponent that stands in their way in their respective conference and fight chest to chest for the Larry O’Brien trophy this year. This is a scenario which now seems highly likely and despite the Spurs’ bumpy road towards the Western Conference Semis. San Antonio will eventually roll past the Dallas Mavericks, who have proven to be tougher to beat than initially expected.
