Coming into Tuesday, the Nuggets were 30-18 and hosting Monta Ellis and the Milwaukee Bucks. Playing sub-par early in the game and down by 2 after the first quarter, 15 at the half, and 7 after the third, the Nuggets just wouldn’t be denied. Despite Dalembert’s 35 points, Gallo and Lawson both added 22 points as the Nuggs outscored the Bucks 33-18 in the fourth quarter to get the 112-104 victory and extend their winning streak to 7 games, which is currently the second longest winning streak in the NBA as of Tuesday, and has catapulted them into a tie for 4th place in the Western Conference.
Samuel Dalembert was absolutely having his way with the Nuggets in the first quarter. He had 21 points after the first, and many of those came in the dunk variety. The Nuggets, who are usually known as the more dominant team in paint play, were completely embarrassed in the paint early, and often.
But the Nuggets wouldn’t bow out. Being down 15 at halftime, the Nuggets were in comeback mode all night long, and things finally opened up by the final quarter. The Nuggets ran the Bucks out of the building, outscoring the Bucks 33-18 in the final 12 minutes.
Gallo was clutch in the fourth quarter. As already seen on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays, there was a play in the fourth quarter where Gallo ran down the elbow towards the baseline, got fouled, and threw up a hail mary, no-look, behind the back prayer, hoping for the bucket. As the ball went off the back board and off the rim, it slowly rolled in, and the Nuggets victory was all but sealed. Gallo finished with 22 points, Lawson had 22 points as well, and Brewer had 20 points.
Dalembert finished 17 for 21 from the field, and surpassed his previous career high of 27 points with 35 for the night.
The Nuggets won their 7th straight game, and with their victory along with losses by Memphis and Golden State on Tuesday, the Nuggets are now tied with the Grizzlies for the 4th seed in the West.
