It’s looking like the Colorado Avalanche are done negotiating with their stud third-line center Ryan O’Reilly. Not only do the negotiations for a contract seem to be off, but some different negotiations are taking place… with other teams.
According to ESPN’s Doug McIntyre, Ryan O’Reilly might not be a member of the Colorado Avalanche for much longer. McIntyre is reporting that O’Reilly is getting serious interest from some teams in the Eastern Conference, as he should.
The Avalanche haven’t been able to reach an agreement with O’Reilly, and it has been said that the middle ground between the Avs and O’Reilly is somewhere around half a million dollars.
To that I say, really Avalanche?
The front office had no problem in giving David Jones 4 million a season, but are hesitant to give the 2011-12 point leader a half a million more to get him back on the ice? Just like many Avalanche fans, it’s definitely making me question the motives of GM Greg Sherman.
Not only Sherman, but is Kroenke focused on the Nuggets a little too much? I know Josh Kroenke is a basketball guy, but the Avs really need some front office love too. The Avalanche are hurting right now. They need the likes of O’Reilly on the ice with players like Landeskog, Downie, Johnson, Hunwick, McLeod hurting or out indefinitely.
These Avalanche players are dropping like flies. Injury is enough reason to lose a quality player, I really hope the Avalanche don’t let O’Reilly get away.
BUT.. if the Avalanche are to trade O’Reilly.. Dreger reported on TSN.ca that the Avs are asking for an established NHL player and a top prospect in return for O’Reilly. It better be damn well worth it for Colorado if the Avs ship O’Reilly out of Denver. Stay tuned.
