Sunday Sports Roundup

sports roundupJust an overlook of some of the big sports stories that transpired today. There was a little bit of everything.

1. It was very unfortunate to hear the news about reliable Denver Bronco Dan Koppen tearing his ACL in practice this morning. He will surely miss the whole regular season, and now it is next man up for the Broncos at the Center position. This is massive loss for Denver’s Offensive Line, with the protection of Peyton Manning being the upmost concern. Every team seems to be getting hit with injuries, and really Denver just needs to stay calm and realize they have the pieces to bring a 3rd Lombardi trophy to the Mile High City.

2. Well Yankee fans and Yankee management, you can all breathe a sigh of relief. I can’t say I wasn’t enjoying this A-Rod mess but it had to end eventually. Multiple reports today suggest that MLB will suspend Alex Rodriguez through the 2014 season! This is very extreme when you look at other cases, but A-Rod had it coming. He didn’t care who he threw under the bus as long as he could continue his MLB career. Well since this Biogenesis revelation, A-Rod’s chances of donning the pinstripes became more a pipe dream and now it is becoming certain, that we may never see A-Rod grace an MLB field again, HAH! With Cooperstown inducting no living members into the Baseball Hall of Fame this year, the stain of the steroid era in MLB is still very evident.

3. Brandt Snedeker won the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday with a winning score of -16. After 2nd round leader Hunter Mahan left the tournament because his wife was about to give birth, it was anyone’s tournament. Brandt Snedeker who is arguably the best putter on the PGA TOUR was all businesslike today and sealed his 2nd victory of the season. Snedeker joins Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Matt Kuchar as the only multiple winners on the PGA TOUR this season. With the PGA Championship a few weeks away, Brandt Snedeker who still does not have a major seems to be inching closer and closer to breaking through, and it might finally be his time at Oakmont in a few weeks’ time.

4. Finally, besides the USA winning the Gold Cup Final (Read my Recap on Site), ESPN and other media sources have reported that the Spanish soccer club Real Madrid have reportedly bid $132.7million for the 24year old Gareth Bale who currently plays in the English Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur. This would be the highest transfer fee for a player ever.
