Here’s hoping Rockies fans had a great time at the Coors Field Rooftop Party Deck last night. That was the only good thing that happened in last night’s Rockies’ 16-8 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Sooner or later, Rockies fans have to wonder if it’s worth going to Coors Field just to have a good time. Anyone can have a good time at a local sports bar. It doesn’t cost much compared to going to a game at Coors Field.
The Rockies can sell the ambiance of Coors Field forever, but that will get old real soon. Folks go to games to watch a winning product, not just to take in the beauty of going to a ballpark.
There are already fair number of Rockies fans that are disgruntled with what has gone on with the Rockies for several years now. They are tired of losing. They have had it with players who don’t know how to win. They are fed up with poor management. It’s year after year. Nothing changes since Rockies owner Dick Monfort is inclined to believe Dan O’Dowd is the right man to lead the Rockies’ baseball operations.
Last night was another night of how bad it is with the Rockies. It started with Carlos Gonzalez being on the disabled list. Quite frankly, it was time since he was useless while playing through a finger injury. He was not hitting well at all. It got to the point something had to give.
Gonzalez’s injury was just another example of how things go for the Rockies. The Rockies’ stars always seem to get hurt during the course of the season. This has happened often with the Rockies outfielder over the years. It’s hard to be optimistic with the team when the Rockies have their stars hurt.
At least, Troy Tulowitzki is not hurt. It’s June. Give it some time. With the Rockies’ luck, it’s a matter of time.
The night did not get better. After it appeared the Rockies would pull off an impressive victory against the Diamondbacks after coming from behind to take an 8-5 lead in the seventh inning, the struggling Rex Brothers blew the game for the Rockies after he got hit around with poor command. The Diamondbacks scored six runs in the eighth inning to regain an 11-8 lead, and that was it. The visitors piled it on even more for good measure by scoring five runs in the ninth.
To top it all off on what was a horrible night for the Rockies, Jordan Lyles could miss some time after breaking his hand in a contact play at home plate last night. He was only their best pitcher this season.
This is life with the Rockies. It’s always bad.
This has a making of another losing season. The Rockies have showed you that nothing is going to get better. They can’t pitch, and their bullpen is a mess all around. Poor pitching makes a team be this bad, and Eddie Butler is not going to save their season.
It’s like this every year. The Rockies know so much losing. Until this baseball operation is fumigated, nothing is going to change. That’s why everyone is so numb about last night. It’s nothing like they have seen before.
Monfort keeps telling people O’Dowd and his staff has done a great job of building this team. Based on what? All these guys do is play poor fundamental baseball year after year. These guys don’t seem to rise up to adversity well.
The Rockies sell us false promises year after year, especially when they get off to a good start. With the way they started, it sure looked like everything was going to change. So much for that.
Why should next year be any better if the same people are going to run the Rockies operations? It’s alarming Monfort does not seem incline to make changes. It’s ridiculous.
One wonders if Monfort built the Party Deck as an incentive for fans to attend Coors Field and forget the incompetence of this baseball operation.
He has to know fans need something to watch besides going to the ballpark and take in the game despite a bad product. Put it this way. There would not be a Party Deck. No one wants to waste his or her time watching a bad product. That’s been the story with the Rockies.
It has gotten old.
It’s hard to believe anything is changing anytime soon.
At least, the Party Deck is nice.
