The long-awaited matchup between the Chiefs and the Broncos is finally under a week away. The 9-0 Chiefs face the 8-1 Broncos in a clash of two of the best teams in the NFL. It isn’t a game simply between two great teams or AFC West rivals, either. The design of each team is fundamentally different.
The Chiefs play a defensive game that was popular in the 1990’s and early 2000s. A point we will reflect upon again soon. Denver on the other hand, play with a modern NFL offence, blowing up record after record.
Best of all, this year finally, KC has a team that can actually compete and have a chance of beating the Broncos. A decade ago, 2003, KC went 13-3 and was a good team, beaten by Manning and the Colts in the AFC Championship game. (I say this cause it’s fun.) Prior to that, KC had another good team in 1997, going 13-3 again then getting beat by the Broncos in another AFC Championship game, with Denver of course going on to win the Superbowl. (I say this cause it’s fun!!)
With all that said, most of my family lives in Kansas and talks a huge amount of smack prior to playing, (and generally loosing), a Bronco game. I would like to believe that KC fans would like to write a little trash talk too but alas, reading and writing has never been a strong suit for that fan. Probably communist too.
Here are the top three arguments and how to debate them, (leaving their pride and self-respect in a pitiful, quivering pile of fetal position, gutter spit), for KC fans.
1) “WE ARE UNDEFEATED!!!! 9-0 BABY”
First of all, don’t drop dead in surprise that a KC fan can actually count to nine. So far, they have beaten the Jags, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Titans, Raiders, Texans, Browns and Bills. Of which, have a combined record of 30-54. Also these particular teams don’t play all that hard of schedule either, losing 54 games between them is a phenomenon almost as miraculous as KC beating all of them and going 9 fer..
2) “The Bronco’s especially Manning is a turnover machine with KC living and dying on the turnover.”
KC is +17 in the turnover ratio, which frankly is damn good and you should applaud them for that. Good thing for them too, of the total 227 points KC has put up, 80 are a DIRECT result of a turnover. For the KC fan reading this, raise your hand if you’re falling behind in class, the above stats prove that KC’s offense cannot score. Plain and simple. Without those 80 points, KC would have dropped two games already. The Broncos are a -2 in turnovers and quite simply, this offense doesn’t care. Of the two notable games where Denver lost points with turnovers, the Raiders and Colts games, the Broncos gave up 26 points to turnovers and won one of those games with a total of 70 points, giving up 60. Simply stating, no turnovers means no losing.
3) “When Manning is pressured, he can’t complete passes. Look at the second half of the SD game. Tamba Hali and Justin Houston will crush Peyton and his Mannikles coming off the corners.”
Simply laugh and state, your cheerleaders are ugly. Nothing wrong with a little childish name calling when it comes to the NFL, then crush him with stats. Manning has 262 passing attempts with 369 completions, 3,249 passing yards, 71% completion ratio, 33 touchdown passes and a 121 quarterback rating…….. THIRTY THREE TOUCHDOWN PASSES!!!! (I say that because it’s fun), let us not forget Manning’s rushing TD either. The Broncos also used a vanilla, offensive play called, SD game. Nothing fancy, nothing elaborate, a simple called game that they won with better players. That easy. When KC comes to town, (bring your own doobie Bowe), expect a large number of two TE sets and only four men running receiving routes. Everybody else will be blocking or running the rock. Expect to see Knowshon Moreno slamming into that leaky run defense of the Chief’s. They gave up 264 and 241 yards, against the Eagles and the Bills.
Plenty of more arguments to be had, let me know yours!!

This is excellent, Shayne.
Good breakdown of the Chiefs and Broncos’ strength. Great stuff with the history of both franchises. I liked how you mixed in humor and your personal history with the Chiefs concerning your family. This was a beautiful read. I enjoyed reading it. I hope our readers enjoy this, too. This is worthy of promoting.
