The St. Louis Blues took it to the Colorado Avalanche Thursday night after poor defense and shaky goaltending from the Avs. This could be perhaps the start of a rivalry between the Blues and Avs, as both sides were very chirpy and showed hatred towards one another.
November 27th can’t come soon enough for most of us Avalanche fans, as it will be a rematch between the Colorado Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues; but the Avs still have to play four more games before then. Games that is crucial early on in the season, against three top Western Conference teams in Chicago, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. They will host the Florida Panthers Saturday night at the Pepsi Center, trying to snap a two game-skid.
You can expect the Pepsi Center to be rocking against the Blackhawks no doubt, but when the time comes and the date reads November 27th, I hope most of you Avs fans will be attending the game. Chris Stewart, former Avalanche player, fought Cory Sarich; a 35-year old defenseman and made a classless gesture towards his home fans trying to pump them up.
Colorado didn’t take that lightly, as there were two other fights that happened later on in the period, as Matt Duchene went up against Vladimir Sobotka and Ryan Reeves with Cody McLeod. It was like watching Friday Night Fights, except on a Thursday.
Later on in the 3rd period, Colorado looked to get back at Chris Stewart as Patrick Roy put out Patrick Bordeleau’s line to see if Stewart would drop with the gloves with someone his own size. But Stewart shied away from it, resulting in Bordeleau getting a 10-minute misconduct penalty.
Towards the end of the 3rd period, Bordeleau’s penalty was up and was back on the ice jawing away at Blues player Dan Reeves. But the referees were not going to allow another fight to take place knowing the game was out of reach and that there was no real reason to with less than two minutes remaining. Patrick Bordeleau was given yet 10-minute misconduct as he was sent to the locker room for the rest of the period. I believe it was smart by the refs to do so at that time.
You can bet money on it that the rematch will be the nastiest National League Hockey game you will have seen all year up to that point. You can believe that a Patrick Roy led hockey club will be sparked and ignited by their head coach to go out there and be relentless with the St. Louis Blues. Chris Stewart will need to keep his head on a swivel come November 27th or it will not be pretty.
You can also bet money that this Colorado Avalanche team will not back down and will get even in the fight department with St. Louis, especially with Stewart. You know Patrick Bordeleau will be on a mission that Wednesday to get even with the 26-year-old; who boasted after taking down a 35-year-old that weighs twenty less pounds than he does.
Chris Stewart stacks up at 6’2” 228lbs, while Colorado enforcer Patrick Bordeleau is a hefty 6’6” 225lbs. If anything, as soon as Roy sees Stewarts line out right away in the game, I expect to see Patrick Bordeleau and crew out there as well for payback.
As an Avalanche fan, it weird to say this even though they are about to play the Blackhawks, but I’m really more intrigued to watch the rematch between Colorado and St. Louis. Colorado showed heart not letting the score affect the outcome of the game, which is why I cannot wait. Just imagine Patrick Roy in the locker room after the 2nd intermission; that’s what excites me. This team is definitely looking forward to the rematch, but will have to wait for revenge as they have a tough task ahead.

This is your best writeup, Andy. I liked how you explained the Blues helping to create a rivalry with the Blues after last night.
One thing about Ken Hitchcock. He always like to create rivalries for his own team, so that his teams can always play with an edge. This goes back to his Stars days in the late 90s.
Rivalries are a good thing. You want regular season games to matter. I can’t get into hockey without rivalries. It makes the game dull. One reason why I am excited about Chiefs/Broncos on Sunday is not only it’s a battle of two great teams, but a battle of two teams that have a history for decades. Rivalries are why we like sports.
