Nuggets Land Robinson

Nate RobinsonAccording to a source close to the situation, the Denver Nuggets will sign former Bulls guard Nate Robinson to a two-year deal worth $4.03 million.

With his impressive season off the bench for the Bulls in 2012-13 averaging 13.1 ppg, “Nate-Rob” gets awarded with more than a one-year commitment. Robinson, who has played with six different teams over his eight years in the NBA, has played with a different team each of the last four years, including when he played for both the Knicks and Celtics in 2010.

Averaging a career high 17.2 ppg with the Knicks in 2010, Robinson has always been a productive scorer. It’s his defense that he’s lacked. Robinson had always been the offensive spark plug throughout his career, but finally started to round out his formerly one-dimensional game in 2012-13 with the Bulls under Head Coach Tom Thibodeau.

Robinson comes to Denver with an already pretty crowded Nuggets back-court. Behind the starters Lawson and likely Fournier with Andre Miller coming off the bench (for now), the addition of Robinson is added to the list of Randy Foye (sign-and-trade) and Erick Green (via the draft) to sit on the bench.

The deal hasn’t been finalized, but the addition of Robinson will be great for the Nuggets as I blogged about a week ago today (Read that blog here). Robinson brings that fiery style game off the bench, and his signing will bolster the Nuggets second-unit.

When you add a player of Nate Robinson’s caliber, there’s minutes to be given and I’m sure Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw will feel the same way. Not sure if that means the departure of Andre Miller who is due to make $5 million this season, but it seems that way to me. Stay Tuned.
