Should the Denver Nuggets make a trade at the February 21st deadline. Gallo? Mozgov? Chandler? Maybe other pieces? Or should they stay pat and finish the season with the currently constructed roster?
The Denver Nuggets could easily make some sort of trade at the deadline. Any team in the league would listen to an offer that includes either Gallo, Mozgov, or Chandler. But should the Nuggets really consider such a trade?
I say no. With the currently constructed roster, the Nuggets are 33-20 and headed towards their 10th straight season in the playoffs. They’re currently the 5th seed and have a realistic chance of obtaining home court and have a chance of finishing as high as the 3 seed. Even though the Clippers are getting healthy and won’t likely give that seed up so easily.
But realistically, what do the Nuggets have to gain in a trade? In any trade that would help them improve at their lesser positions, they would have to give up Gallo or Chandler.
I’ve also heard many bring up the thought of Iguodala now becoming expendable with Chandler’s healthy status. But the Nuggets would lose a lot of respect on defense. Maybe not a whole lot of actual defense, but Iggy demands a lot of respect on the court from the opposition that Chandler does not. So keep Iggy.
Another possibility is the trade of Mozgov to add depth at another position. If a trade came to the table where just Mozgov would be shipped away, the Nuggets wouldn’t realistically get a quality player in return. The package would have to include either Chandler or Gallo to get a legit piece to come back to the Nuggets.
All the possible trade scenarios don’t really have the Nuggets becoming any type of championship calibur team by any stretch of the imagination. So their best bet is to just stay pat and let their team chemistry speak for itself.
