According to sources, the Denver Nuggets are to hire Pacers assistant Brian Shaw as their next head coach!
(As seen in this picture under Zen Master Phil Jackson as assistant in LA.) The longtime-assistant will finally get a crack as head coach for the first time in his NBA coaching career.
Sources told the Denver Post early Monday evening that Brian Shaw would be the new guy for the Mile High crew. “I feel honored and privileged that (Nuggets executives) Josh (Kroenke) and Tim (Connelly) have put faith in me that I’m the guy they want to grow with going forward,” Brian Shaw told the Denver Post.
The Brian Shaw hire comes 18 days after George Karl was let go following his 2012-13 Coach of the Year campaign. Other names that were in the Denver head coaching hat include former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins who was the other top candidate, former Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro, and San Antonio Spurs Assistant Brett Brown.
But the guy who got the job, Brian Shaw, most recently coached under Frank Vogel for the Indiana Pacers. Shaw most famously worked under Phil Jackson and the triangle offense in LA with the Lakers, but isn’t expected to bring the triangle to Denver.
Next stop for the Nuggets franchise after hiring GM Tim Connelly and now new head coach Brian Shaw is to get free agency going, hopefully by headlining with an agreement with Andre Iguodala to stay in town.
