Iguodala Opts For Golden State

Following the exits of Head Coach George Karl and General Manager Masai Ujiri, G/F Andre Iguodala has also sought out the line of cookie crumbs out of Denver.

“Iggy” opted to sign a 4-year/ $48 million contract with the Golden State Warriors Friday afternoon. Despite the Nuggets offering Iguodala both a 4-year deal worth $52 million and a 5-year deal worth up to excess of $60-64 million according to reports, Iggy decided to take less money and less years to sign with the Warriors. Around 2 PM Denver time, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported that Iguodala signed a 4-year, $48 million deal with Golden State.

The move comes after Iguodala was first offered a 4-year deal worth $52 million by the Sacramento Kings earlier this week before they pulled that offer off the table when they felt as if Iguodala was hesitant to accept the deal and go to a team in rebuilding mode.

As for the Nuggets, many believed that Denver was offering too much money for Iguodala’s services and wouldn’t be able to make any moves in free agency following a possible extension with the Gold Medal-winner. Only problem is, many other potential free agent targets that could have been viable replacements following Iguodala’s possible departure, are now with other teams. Other free agents targets such as Tony Allen, Al Jefferson, J.J. Redick, and Mike Dunleavy Jr., are no longer available as Plan B for the Nuggets.

I understand where many fans were coming from when voting against the re-signing of Iguodala. Many thought it would be overpaying for just a “good” player. Only issue is, there aren’t many other options for Denver this late in free agency. With Brian Shaw headed into his first year as head coach of the Nuggets, many believe Denver will have to stand pat heading into the 2013-14 season and then try to make a big splash in the next free agency class headed by Carmelo Anthony (had to throw that in there first), possibly Lebron James if he opts out, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Pau Gasol, Amar’e Stoudemire, and many other solid options.
